BMW build luxury cars and motorcycles – what more do we need to say!
Why they got in touch with Central Flooring
Over the years, we’ve completed various flooring projects for our client, BMW. This time, they asked us to install a new resin flooring system in one of their warehouses to make it easy for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to track across it.
About the project
BMW were delighted with their new floor, and we look forward to completing more projects with them in the future.
Project
To allow the AGVs to function properly on the production line, the resin floor has to be completely level – in fact, it has to meet a specific tolerance.
Product
We used several products for this installation – 1,750m² of cementitious pump screed and 1,750m² of Vebro PU ESD SL with topcoat. This dispels electrostatic discharge to stop the operatives getting small shocks and the electrostatic interfering with the machinery. We also used 344 linear meters of Pumexpand V Joint filler and Altro Line for demarcation lines and markings.
Preparation
We started off by inspecting the existing concrete floor for moisture and carrying out a level survey to establish the depths of underlay screed. Then, to prepare the floor to take the new resin, we carried out enclosed shot blating – which is a process frequently used to prepare concrete floors before the application of coatings and screeds. We also mechanically ground down any high points with a diamond grinder. To finish, we vacuumed all residue with a dry vacuum, then responsibly disposed of any waste.
Project Duration
There were many aspects to this project, which we carried out over a few weeks.
