It’s a question frequently typed into Google, but the short answer is ‘yes’ – resin flooring can be expensive. And it’s the same for solid oak floors and smartly designed tiles. It’s a quality product designed to last. You’ll also want an experienced and qualified fitter to install it. The two go together like a hand and a glove.
So having made the commercial decision to invest in resin, the next step is choosing an independent contractor to help you select the best system for your workspace, taking into account your brief – and having it installed correctly to the manufacturers guidelines. Get this right, and your resin floor will last around 25-years. When you break your investment down into ‘cost per day’, it’ll represent extremely good value for money.
But before you choose your resin flooring contractor – here are some top tips from us.
Do your research
Are they credible? Find a resin floor installer that has accreditations. Are they members of their professional body, the Resin Flooring Association? Check their background – how long have they been trading, are they financially stable – a quick check of Companies House will tell you. Ask for recommendations – contact people who’ve done business with them. Then, once you have a contractor in mind, ask to speak to some of their recent customers to find out how the company performed – they should be more than happy for you to do that. If you want to go one step further, ask to visit one or two client sites to see their workmanship – is the quality of installation aligned with your expectations?
Peace of mind
How has your contractor reassured you that they’re the right people for the job? We want our customers to have peace of mind when they spend their money with us. Central Flooring is one of the biggest independent resin flooring companies in the UK – and our experience is vast. With every installation we take on, we’ll assign a project manager to take ownership for delivering what we promised. We only work with the very best industry manufacturers and quality products. With us, you’ll get a warranty from the manufacturer which speaks volumes – it means they have confidence in Central Flooring to be able to deliver their branded products as intended.
How important is price?
It is something our client base consider, but it doesn’t come first. They have to be able to satisfy other prerequisites. That’s why they’re interested in our accreditations. They want to be confident we’re at ease filling out PPQ forms that qualify us to work on site. They want to see that we have robust health and safety in place along with risk assessments, and a company structure to back it up. They want to know that our operatives are trained and qualified and that their project is going to be properly coordinated. We make it our business to communicate all of this to our customers, so they know what to expect from us.
On numerous occasions, we’ve been called to a project where we previously lost out on price because the previous contractor let them down. They didn’t show up when they said they would causing significant inconvenience to their production. When the contractor eventually arrived on site, their workmanship was below par, didn’t meet the spec as described in their quotation and because expansion joints weren’t fitted, the floor cracked. In our experience with cases like this, you find that the client also had to pay the contractor upfront. So when trying to contact them to complain, they’re already on the back foot. That’s why it’s so important to choose a contractor who belongs to FeRFA, because if something goes wrong and you need help to resolve it, you’ll have their professional body on your side.
So why would you choose a resin floor?
They’re built to last. They’re installed in some fairly labour-intensive environments where they have to perform as intended – factories, warehouses, manufacturing plants, industrial kitchens, and Government infrastructure such as prisons, NHS, RAF, and MOD.
Hard-wearing and durable, you can track over resin 24/7 with heavy duty wheels and a high footfall and they’ll still look good. Resin has brilliant resistance to chemicals, oil spills, and acidic food substances, yet they’re easy to clean and keep clean. Being seamless, further improves their hygiene rating. And adding an aggregate to the resin improves its resistance to slips, increasing its safety. Plain, decorative or branded – you can have lines, numbers and logos painted across it. We could go on – but we’ll stop here.
