The team at Central Flooring scale Mount Snowdon for Charity

On Friday December 1st, 2023, some of the team at Central Flooring trekked 1085m (3559 ft) to the top of Mount Snowdon to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK. And what an incredible journey it was!

Most of us will have seen the devastating effects that cancer has on our much-loved family, our friends and colleagues – so we’re really passionate about supporting the brilliant pioneering work that this charity does to prevent, diagnose and treat this disease.

So, early on Friday morning, we all piled into a minibus at our depot in Whetstone, Leicestershire for the 3.5-hour drive to Wales’ highest mountain in in heart of Snowdonia’s stunning park. Fully kitted out in our winter walking gear we were ready to scale this mighty mountain. We started our climb at around 10.30, and we couldn’t have picked a better day. As you can see from our photos, the weather was glorious – it was bright blue sunny skies all the way up to the summit and all the way down to base camp.

Climbing the first half of the mountain was fairly straightforward. In fact, at the halfway point, we stopped to refuel with a packed lunch – and time to take in the mesmerising scenery. The second half of the climb was icier, so we had to watch our step – but that’s when the rugged landscape become even more magical. After around 2.5 hours, we’d inched our way to the top. It was exhilarating and mind-blowing in equal measure.

Standing on top of the summit taking in the breathtaking views was a great sense of achievement for us all – and perhaps more so for those climbing for the very first time. After we’d all caught our breath and taken plenty of snaps to capture our adventure, we made our descent.

To relax our aching muscles and to celebrate our memorable expedition we booked an overnight stay in one of the local hotels and tucked in to a well-earned curry and a few beers at one of the village restaurants.
