It can – yes. Applied to floors and walls, Quartz Screed is considered by many to be the Rolls Royce of resin floors and one of the very best materials to invest in.

So what exactly is the Quartz Screed system? Made up of three-layers – it’s also known as a sandwich floor. That’s because the primer goes down first to completely level the existing sub floor, followed by your chosen layer of coloured or natural decorative Quartz screed and then finished with an impervious sealed topping. Sandwich complete!

Quartz Screed has many desirable characteristics which is why it’s often chosen for sterile environments, seclusion rooms, prison cells, toilet and changing facilities, food production areas and commercial kitchens.

Why is Quartz Screed a good option?

  • It creates a seamless finish because of the smooth transition from the floor to the wall to the point where you create short or high coving. This non-porous system is super hygienic because spills tend to sit on the floor until they’re cleaned up and has resistance to stains.
  • It’s a tough floor that will last for years without the need for a refurb. But it also has a softness and comfort to it which you’ll want in certain surroundings like seclusion rooms and prison cells. The springiness within the Quartz Screed also aids safety and noise reduction.
  • Depending on where you want to install the Quartz and the degree of slip resistance, it can be tailored with a light or heavy textured surface.
  • Adding a jolt of colour from a generous palette of matt, satiny or gloss block colours – or natural finishes, is very easy to do by adding different Quartz stones. Yes – it’s a hardwearing floor but is can also be highly decorative. It’s also the perfect choice if you want to incorporate your brand into the design.

Installing a Quartz Screed system is a specialist skill because it’s a hand trowelled screed that doesn’t self-level. At Central Flooring Services, we’ve been applying Quartz Screed for more than three decades. One of our largest flooring projects was at Glen Parva Prison in Leicestershire on behalf of main contractor Lendlease where we installed 15,000m² of Quartz. We finished this £1.5 million project ahead of schedule and on budget.

James Parker Assistant Project Manager at Lendlease described our workmanship as:

“Exceptional – that’s how I would score the quality of Central’s resin flooring installation at Glen Parva prison. They’re excellent at what they do, there were no issues, they completed the project on time and their co-ordination with other trades was seamless.

Hats off to Dan Morgan, Central’s site supervisor for our project. He led the team brilliantly; they were fully compliant and attended meetings. The product was installed as per the manufacturers guidelines and the working areas were always left clean, tidy, and free of damage.

There were two resin flooring contractors working with us on the prison project and there was a massive difference – Central Flooring really impressed us. The team were fantastic to work with – it was solid 10/10 in all respects. We would be more than happy to work with Central Flooring again”.
